Tony Hoffman's Story

From rock bottom to the Olympic games.
Tony Hoffman lost everything to addiction as a young athlete — years of struggle, no direction, no idea how to get his life back. He rebuilt it piece by piece, and went on to coach an athlete to the Rio Olympics. Today he’s one of the most in-demand voices in mental health and recovery, and he’s still personally involved in the care of every person who comes through pH Wellness.
“I don’t run this place from an office. I show up, because someone showed up for me when I needed it most.”
- Rock BottomAddiction took the BMX career first, then his health, then his direction.
- 2008
The rebuild started with four goals written on a folded piece of paper.
Race BMX professionally. Get to the Olympics. Start something for kids. Speak about addiction and mental health.
- 2011Back on a professional start gate. Goal one, done.
- 2016Rio de Janeiro. Coaching Brooke Crain to a fourth-place Olympic finish.
- TODAYAuthor, national speaker, Freewheel Project founder — and personally involved in the care of every person who comes through pH Wellness.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is drug rehab?
Most drug rehab programs run 30, 60, or 90 days. The right length depends on the substance, how long you have been using, and your medical and mental health needs, not a fixed calendar.
Detox at pH Wellness typically takes 5 to 14 days, followed by inpatient treatment. Our clinical team builds your timeline with you during admission and adjusts it as you progress.
Do you treat mental health conditions too, or only addiction?
Both. Many people dealing with addiction also live with anxiety, depression, trauma, or another condition, and treating them together leads to steadier results than addressing either alone.
What kinds of treatment do you offer?
We treat substance use and mental health conditions across a range of care levels, matched to what each person needs rather than a one-size plan. After an assessment, we help you start at the right level and adjust as you progress.
Does insurance cover drug rehab?
Yes. Most insurance plans cover drug and alcohol rehab, including medical detox and inpatient treatment, because addiction is a diagnosable medical condition under the Affordable Care Act.
Coverage amounts vary by plan, so the fastest way to know what you will pay is a verification of benefits. We check your coverage for free and confidentially, with no obligation to admit.
What happens when I reach out?
You talk with someone who listens, asks about what you are dealing with, and explains your options. If it is a fit, the next step is an assessment that shapes your treatment plan. No pressure, no commitment to start.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on your needs, history, and progress. Some people move through a level of care in a few weeks, others stay longer or step down gradually. Your timeline is set with your clinical team, not fixed in advance.
